Italy holds a special place in the hearts of many people. Whether that's because it's a stunning wedding location or a bucket list trip with friends, most can agree that there's something truly exceptional about its scenic towns and cities. For me, it is a homeland, a place where I can touch the soil my family once farmed before fleeing to the United States.
Last summer, I had the privilege of living in Italy as part of a study abroad course. While this wasn't my first trip to Italy, it would be the first one where I lived there like a local. This time, I could really see why all of Italy is so fanatical about their food. The majority of my stay was in Florence, however, I also spent a good amount of time in Sardinia, Bologna, Rome and Sicily. They will all get lots of love in the posts to come.
I'm thrilled to document my culinary findings here so that others who are passionate about travel and specifically traveling for food can experience the flavors firsthand. Sadly, so many swarms of American tourists struggle to find the right restaurants, or make the mistake of solely ordering pizza and pasta. What a crime. I couldn't assume that everyone knows how to avoid tourist traps, as many travelers simply can't read the signals for a good or bad restaurant. As someone who hates tragedies, I want to combat the waste of money, time and tastebuds. I'm sharing the best meals and restaurants on my travels, plus tips on avoiding tourist traps, how to enjoy breakfast like a local, and savoring the best desserts. Here is the Italy you will never regret.
